Exploring what lies beneath the streets of a city is a task that many people would gladly pass. But, transverse the corridors under Crystal City and you’ll be marveled by the local art scene.
Established in 2012, Gallery Underground is a large light-filled art space by Arlington Artists Alliance gallery that promotes the works of establishes and emerging regional artists. The exhibits include paintings, drawings, sculptures, glasswork, ceramic, and photography, and jewelry.
The artwork shown at the gallery changes each month and there are several community events held each month like lunchtime paint-ins, monthly Painting Uncorked classes, and dance and musical performances. Also, on the first Friday of each month, there’s a free opening reception from 8 am to 5 pm.
Gallery Underground has been voted “Best Art Gallery” in Arlington Magazine’s “Best of Arlington” survey and was picked as the “Best Gallery, Crystal City” by Washingtonian Magazine. It is located in the Crystal City Shops, 2100 Crystal Drive and there’s plenty of parking and restaurants are within a walking distance for a fun lunch or dinner outing.
