The North Terminal at Reagan National Airport is the home of the famous Abingdon Plantation Historical Site, a Revoluntary War Era plantation. The site of the plantation is still represented by a set of brick ruins which can be seen on top of a hill.
Abingdon was built in 1695 by the Alexander family before being purchased by George Washington’s stepson. After the purchase of the house the property was then bought by descendants of the Alexander family after which it was used for Union troops to set camp. After a battle over the rightful owner of the property, the property was destroyed by fire and has since remained in ruins. After 11 years of being in ruins the Washington National Airport was built north of the property.
